The Africa Healthcare Chaplaincy Network (AHCN) is a health and human welfare agency incorporated with The African Project (TAP) in Nigeria, South Africa, USA and UK as a nongovernmental organization that embarks on introduction, integration, support and provision of professional chaplaincy and spiritual care in healthcare and human welfare settings.
As it is now widely understood that health and illness are holistic matters involving all the aspects of what it means to be human: physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, economic, social, cultural, religious, ethical, and others, that if modern health care is to effectively treat and prevent illness and promote healthy living, these various aspects of a person's life must be competently addressed. Chaplaincy and spiritual care is the only ministry that addresses emotional, spiritual, and religious needs.
AHCN encourages the provision of efficient and effective chaplaincy and spiritual care services in public health and human welfare settings in order for people to access holistic care services. It is not only focused on the provision of compassionate chaplaincy care services, but also on its integration into public health and welfare facilities.
Chaplaincy is a ministry that provides for the spiritual, religious and emotional needs of people in distress and pains. Most leaders of
chaplaincy in Africa are not correctly or rightly informed about the purpose of chaplaincy in the society, all what we see are untrained people that are wearing chaplain uniforms. Most of them are being used as escort or protocol officers for big Men of God and some are used as security officers and traffic wardens in most church events.
We work to reform chaplaincy in Africa. It is our pleasure to invite the faithful people to join us as we work through our various chaplaincy ministries. We have opened our doors to embrace genuine volunteers who can serve faithfully in chaplaincy areas. Volunteers operate in various areas and settings. We need volunteers who can serve as chaplains and spiritual care-givers to provide effective compassionate chaplaincy and spiritual care in varied settings and areas of need.
